Beef Pilau

The beef pilau is one of the most common Swahili cultural dishes and with this recipe, you will be able to prepare a meal just as exquisite.

Spices play a major role in food preparation and such spices are what make Swahili foods what they are. Therefore, before you set out to prepare one of these, make sure that you have all the required spices as well as ingredients.

I am going to show you how to prepare this meal as well as the required ingredients and steps to follow when preparing them.

Ingredients

Serves 7

Preparation Time: 30 minutes

Total Time: 45 minutes

· 3 cups rice

· 6 cups warm water

· 1 tsp salt

· 1 tbsp. pilau masala

· 4 large onions

· 1/2 kg beef

· 1 tsp black pepper

· 1/2 kg Cooking oil

· 1 tsp cumin powder

· 1 garlic clove

· 1 tsp ginger

Directions

On a wide enough pot, boil the meat and sprinkle with salt to taste then keep it aside.

In a separate pan, fry the finely chopped onions until they turn dark golden brown.

Add some meat, garlic, ginger, and salt then stir and add some water and let it come to a boil.

As soon as it is boiled, add the spices and some more water then let it boil again.

Add the rice and 6 cups of water. Cover it and let it boil for 15-20 minutes or until the rice is well cooked and dried.

As the pilau is getting ready, you may want to prepare a salad to make your meal even tastier. Here are the directions for preparing a salad.

FOR THE SALAD:

Ingredients:

· 3 tomatoes

· 1 onion

· 1 cucumber

· 1 carrot

· 1 green pepper.

Directions

Cut the tomatoes and cucumber into thin circular shape. Then grate the green pepper and the carrot. For the onion cut thinly and soak it in the vinegar to remove the harshness. Combined all of them. Ready for serving with cold drink.
